another cute nephew

This one visited last week from NC. He is a hoot. Smiles nearly non stop. And dances too.

If you have not noticed, I have a new little box over there -------------------------------->
that says Capture Cincinnati. I am entering some of my photos in this contest and how cool would it be if YOU were to go vote, and one of mine made it into the book? Very. It would be very cool.

one or two?

1.

2.
You know how when you go to the eye doctor, and they click back and forth between the lenses in front of you and they say: is one or two better? two or three? I want to know what you like best. Boosted and bright in number 1 or 70's and washed out in number 2?

I thought a beautiful shot of Miss Shelby was in order after all of the recent Olivia glory!

she collects statues

She does. She loves them. She loves the blown glass kind you see on vacation or at the kiosks during Christmas. She often spends her $1 at the Dollar Store, on a statue. She has begun collecting Precious Moments and asking for them for birthdays and holidays. She collects statues.

For at least 3 years, Olivia has paid close attention to the display case at the local library which rotates other peoples' collections. They might be baking pans, or drawings, or dog memorabilia--but she notices. She stops and looks at each one and then always asks how they got their collection in there? And more importantly, how can she display HER collection?
So last month we asked. The only open month was July. Perfect as it is her Birthday month. Today, we planned to deliver her collection for display. First, she dictated to me what she wanted her informational sign to read:
Next, she insisted that we identify which were made by Aunt Kelly and she came up with the small green signs. (I mean seriously, is that like the sweetest, kindest gesture ever?! Aunt Kelly made these to make her happy and OH have they made her happy. She loves them. Proof that with kids it is the little things.) Then we wrapped each of her gems into newspaper and transported them to the library.

Where they will be enjoyed by many over the next month.

today she is 8

This beautiful little girl of mine.
Today she is a canoe-er. canoe-ist? A person in a canoe.
She is a blindfolded pinata hitter.
Today, she asked that we sing to her before the day ended and chose this candle that she made last week at vacation bible school. So what if we are eating McDonald's at 10 pm and the only singers were her Mom, Dad and sister....this is a genuine smile.

Today, my heart is as full as it was 8 years ago when they handed her to me for the first time. Today, I am a super lucky mom to an 8 year old.

This is what it's all about. Next week we will celebrate with a party but today was just plain ol' happiness.

Holy Guacamole!

(photo from Food Network)

I have just very recently acquired a taste for guacomole, due in large part, to my sister in law Lisa, who has been whipping up a variation of this Tyler Florence recipe. This week, I have made two batches myself. I followed Lisa's lead and kept it really basic so I used avocado, lime juice, red onion, tomato and salt and pepper. I am sure the other ingredients are good as well, but right now, I don't want to mess with what I know I love.

How do you make guacomole?? Pin It
