#32-basketball player extraordinaire

My heart just about jumps out of my body when she gets her hands on the ball! She is trying so hard that it just melts me.

I know very little about the game so my cheering is very generic but that does not stop me. I like to yell. The game was really exciting, even if it was a loss. If any of you (all of you?!) could cross your fingers that Olivia will soon make a basket, it would sure mean a lot. And by basket, I mean even if it were to go in during practice, that would be big...for her.

Oh and a little funny. Every time Olivia got the ball, she immediately passed it as quickly as she could. It was like a game of hot potato.

progress + things in progress

The baby quilt is complete! It survived both the washer and dryer, is heavenly soft and I feel proud to give it as a gift. Regardless, my kids knew who it was intended for and would have held me to it anyway :)
This a little art gallery I have going in my upstairs hallway adjacent to the window seat I have been making pillows for. Two of the three plates are from Orla Kiely at Target, the other I just picked up b/c it coordinated. The frames are from Ikea and were bright yellow which did not work so I spray painted them (using the same color as my office hutch) green. They are sized to hold an 8.5x11 sheet of paper so my intent is to rotate the kids art work. The best part? This is exactly what I see when I look out my office door. It is an extension of the things I love :) Slowly, I hope to collect plates to add and perhaps bump it up to 5 frames for artwork.

And in progress is this coin quilt. I really love all the piecing, sewing all the "coins" together. What I do not love, and am not good at, is cutting. Especially large pieces or long strips. I'd like to get the top done and then purchase a yellow print for the back and then perhaps bind it in grey or a combo of these prints? Not sure. I also am getting anxious to try free motion quilting, which requires a new foot, so I am working up to that purchase. This quilting bug has really bitten me.

me and the mona lisa

About 15 years ago (some days it feels like 50, and others it seems like only yesterday) 3 of my close friends, and me, went on a cruise. It was probably one of the most fun and adventurous trips of our lives. We were so young, and mostly stupid, taking crazy chances like hanging out with the cabin steward at a bar in Mexico and nearly missing the ship before it deported. Sigh. As a mother now, I cringe at memories like that.
Anyway, we survived and still laugh at the memories. This is the matted frame that people signed who came to my party on Saturday night. Not sure which friend I have to thank for digging this photo out of the archives, but it is me...and the Mona Lisa carved out of cheese. If you have ever been on a cruise, you understand. They do amazing things with ice and food!

***eta: do this at your own risk! I guess when I cropped in on this, and took it in extremely low light, it = super poor picture quality. My apologies to the cheese sculptor.

office hutch goodness

Remember this $6 thrifting find??

So it has spent about 6 weeks in my garage until Sunday I decided 42 degrees was a good time to break out the spray paint.
Two cans later, some sanding and a coat of polyurethane and it looks like this. I am so proud of myself. I am good at ideas, not so good at the follow through typically.
And then yesterday, I got all kinds of impatient and carried it by myself up the stairs and into my office. It is not light. In fact, I had to call Olivia to help push from behind on the stairs and she ran screaming that I was going to squash her when it slid down a bit. Fortunately, her friend was here playing, and she helped me. Yikes!
I am really loving it and all the possibilities. I already have several more items in place, and switched things around to better suit my storage and crafting needs. Which these days are leaning more heavily toward sewing than anything else. Go figure. I also plan to take down the white shelf above it, spray that matching green and also spray all the lids on the baby food jars. Yea, that was the original idea 4 or so years ago...

I am making what I have work and that is satisfying.
